The Saxon Grill and Bar Six, Sandbach
The Saxon Grill was formerly the Crown Hotel
Image; Bar Six, occupying a building until recently used by an estate agent, is a more recent addition to the town's many drinking places.

The Lower Chequer, Sandbach
Since my previous photo seven years earlier
Image the pub has changed ownership; from the outside not much has changed other than removal of ivy and a new inn sign
Image
The pub is grade 2 listed (list entry 1130388); the listing describes it as "Late C16 or early C17 but much altered and restored and retaining few original features" with the half-timbering being a modern imitation rather than part of the original structure.

The Lower Chequer, Sandbach - inn sign
In the last few years the pub
Image has been bought by Joules Brewery who now describe it as a "craft beer bar". The new sign keeps the historical associations of the pub's name as a counting house.

Detail of the older of the Sandbach Crosses
The taller of the two grade I listed 'crosses' is also the older. The central panel of this south-east side clearly represents the Crucifixion of Christ; the other scenes are less obvious but according to the interpretation board on site, represent the Nativity (bottom) and Visit of the Magi (top). See
Image for more context.

North-west town criers competition 2009
It was the turn of Sandbach to host the 2009 competition for the north-west's best town crier. This candidate, seen in front of the Crown hotel on the town square, came from one of the towns in the West Midlands.
