"The Cobbles", High Street, Sandbach
Taking its name from the cobbled square on the corner of which it is situated, this cocktail bar (due to open on 10 August) will be a new use for what was until recently a florist's shop (I didn't get a photo of it in that guise). It shows how the town is going more upmarket these days. The 17th century building, address 34 High Street, is grade 2 listed (list entry 1130358) and was originally Williams Deacon's Bank.

Godfrey Williams & Son
This shop on the south side of the town square has been a family owned delicatessen for as long as I have known the town (i.e. the late 1970s). The tower of the parish church is behind.

The George Inn, now a Wetherspoon
The pub is not a new one (in fact it dates from c.1810, and is listed grade 2, list entry number 1330397). But it had recently (November 2013) been taken over by the J D Wetherspoon chain. They retained its historic name. See also Image

The George Inn, Sandbach
The pub has existed under the same name for a long time (at least 1822, possibly 1782 or earlier, see Image) but is now a Wetherspoon. See also Image

Signs outside the George pub (1)
The sign on the right gives the pub's history from its origins c.1822 to it becoming a Wetherspoon pub in 2013. A document I found online listing the names of past landlords of Sandbach pubs indicates that William Lindop held the George Inn in 1782 so its origins are even older than the sign suggests, though it may have been an earlier building. In 1899 it was the George and Dragon but has reverted to the shorter name since then. Listed grade II (list entry 1330397), see Image for context.
