Minion's Wharf and former coal yard
On the Coventry canal at Atherstone. It was pretty dull in Atherstone but a few minutes later at Alder Mill there was brilliant low sun.

Under bridge 41, Coventry Canal
The area around the top lock at Atherstone is well kept and attractive although the presence of this derelict cruiser moored by bridge 41 does not enhance it.

Minions Wharf
Canal boat at Minions Wharf, Coleshill Road, Atherstone. Looks like a Bulk coal carrier as it is tied up at a coal merchants yard.

Atherstone Top Lock, Coventry Canal
Looking down from the Coleshill Road bridge, the area round the top lock (there are 11 altogether in the flight) presents an idyllic canal scene. A narrowboat waits to enter the system while another ascends; to the left the small building is used by the Canal and River Trust and the Top Lock Cottage is on the right. Everything is kept neat and tidy.

Minion's Wharf from Top Lock
On the Coventry Canal in Atherstone. My old guide to the Industrial Archaeology of the West Midlands suggests there are lots of decrepit buildings around the wharf but I suspect most of them have gone.
