Developer's dream
For several years this 70s house has lain empty and increasingly derelict in a large plot of land on the outskirts of Stratford upon Avon. The area is adjacent to new-build housing and it can only be a matter of time before this plot is swallowed up. At the time of the pic a large Victorian house next door was also boarded up with a developer's hut on site.

The Armillary
A controversial 25 foot high, corten steel art work on the roundabout at the junction of Banbury Road and Trinity Way.
The work was designed by public artists Renn and Thacker, who were commissioned by the Stratford Renaissance Group - Stratford's Market Town Initiative group, part of World Class Stratford. It was funded by the developer of the adjoining Trinity Meads housing project.
It was installed in 2007.
It has been the subject of petitions to have it removed, but so far to no avail.http://democracy.stratford.gov.uk/mgConvert2PDF.aspx?ID=7012

Sculpture under construction
This artwork has been under construction for some months, with not much sign of progress. I assume it is related to the building of several expensive new apartment/flats in the area.

Sculpture, junction of Banbury Road and Trinity Way
Big arcs of rusting steel on an important roundabout, now complete. Admirable and engaging but rendered incongruous by the setting of highway paraphernalia.

The Armillary
This £100,000 pound sculpture on the roundabout where the A422 meets the A4390 on the Banbury Road is by Mick Thacker and it has been creating quite a stir since it was erected in 2007.
An armillary sphere is a model of the earth and the space around it with the rings representing imaginary planes and lines which are used in astronomy and navigation.
This is a simplified representation as it has several important lines missing, such as the tropics of cancer and capricorn. The partial circle with the solid white line on it is the celestial equator
