Lock No 53 in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire
This is Maidenhead Road Lock, No 53 on the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal. The far gate of the lock was in dreadful condition, so out of balance that it was VERY heavy work trying to re-close it after using the lock. Let's hope the 2012/2013 winter maintenance schedule includes it.
There is a flight of four locks down through Stratford-upon-Avon, then a fifth into the River Avon. This is the second from the top, raising the water level by 6ft 10in (just over two metres).
