Cloister Crofts, Lillington
Something of a rat-run in north Leamington, it was laid out "by about 1924" but the housebuilders were slow to develop it, so the houses are of all styles, sizes and ages. The trees are Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum), planted perhaps as an alternative to Common Lime, of which there are a number of over-mature but loved-or-loathed avenues in the Victorian town. However, Silver Maple has proved just as problematic as a street tree. Wind pressure can cause large branches to fall because the wood is brittle. Management of individual trees and the succession of an avenue arouses strong feelings among the public - and the professionals. Another view is Image

East side of Cloister Way, Lillington
The Maidenhair Tree, Ginkgo biloba, has found favour as a street tree in recent years. It has a slender, open crown and an endearingly spiky, 'bottlebrush' appearance. London's Fitzrovia has some impressive semi-mature examples. Here in the sticks we have a specimen turning autumnal gold, right of centre, and the foliage of another tree intruding on the right. All's well at the moment but these trees will get BIG! Size matters to householders.

Warren Close overlooks Leamington Cricket Club ground
Warren Close was extended and doubled in length through the disposal of part of the ground: an unfortunate precedent because developers would like the rest.

Gutted
This former house in Leamington Spa was turned into a small hotel many years ago. It has now been bought for conversion into yet another care home, which in this case involves gutting the entire building leaving only a facade which looks like it is being retained. A large hole is being dug to extend the basement for further accommodation.
