Lillington Road - Clarendon Street
These two roads meet end on at this point. As a result the house numbers descend (from left to right) 8, 6, 4, 2 on the brick faced buildings and then start again 1, 3 etc. on the painted houses. Good training for a novice postman!

Snow on Lillington Road
After the heavy, and very sticky snowfall in December 1990 some traffic starts moving again.

After a heavy snow storm
A heavy blizzard of the wrong sort of snow (the damp sticky variety) caused chaos, bringing down trees, telephone and power lines even in towns and built up areas. This view, looking east along Binswood Avenue towards Lillington Road in the adjacent square shows one of the trees brought down by the wind and weight of snow.

Space Invader mosaic, Arlington Avenue, Leamington Spa
This small mosaic, of 70 tiles, depicts an alien of the pixelated Space Invader type, familiar from the Japanese video game of that name from 1978. It is set into the white painted stucco of a wall outside a large Regency town house. One tile, near the top right, is translucent, suggesting a moon in the night sky. On Space Invaders, see Matt Alt, Pure Invention: How Japan's Pop Culture conquered the World, Constable, 2020.

Trinity Street, Royal Leamington Spa
Although the wide avenues in this part of Leamington are the feature which are most obvious to visitors, the small streets at the area have some equally interesting buildings, such as this group of "garages", complete with lofts from the days before the horseless carriage.

Terraced houses, Beauchamp Avenue, Royal Leamington Spa
The house in the centre appears to be of the same form as those on the left, but they have had a different surface treatment. Conservation Area guidelines recommend that houses be painted Magnolia or White, not always appropriately. It creates an appealing conformity but I don't know how authentic it is. Photos of post-war Leamington show terraces of grey cement render stained with soot from coal fires.
