A winding hole is a short section of widened canal that enables long narrowboats to make a 180 degree turn. This is a new one that seems to have been constructed as part of The Moorings residential development.

Grand Union Canal at Leamington Spa, Warwickshire
This shows new apartments by the now desirable setting of the former Warwick and Napton Canal, opened in 1799. This and several other independent canals were joined together to form the Grand Union canal in 1929.
