Regency frontages, Bath Street, Leamington Spa
The area of Leamington south of the river is now a little down-at-heel compared to the north side, but was the original centre of the Regency resort, as the buildings along Bath Street indicate. The Parthenon was the site of the resort's Assembly Rooms, later a music hall, and is Grade II listed (http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-481501-the-parthenon-royal-leamington-spa-warwi#.WANojjGQxPY ).

Former Temperance Hotel, now Temperance Cafe, Bath Street, Leamington Spa
The Temperance Cafe occupies the ground floor and basement of this fine Regency building in the Southtown or Old Town of Leamington. According to the cafe owner, the building was the Westminster Temperance Hotel and Coffee Tavern in the later 19th and early 20th centuries; he is quoted at the Warwickshire World site https://www.warwickshireworld.com/news/new-lease-of-life-for-regency-building-in-leamingtons-old-town-252010 . The building and its neighbours are listed and are dated c1818-34 in the official listing, which can be seen at the Historic England site https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1381133?section=official-list-entry .
A Temperance Hotel would have been alcohol-free, in keeping with the principle of total abstinence from alcoholic drinks promoted by the Temperance movement; see Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperance_movement_in_the_United_Kingdom . The modern cafe serves alcohol, however.

Looking towards the railway bridge on a wet June afternoon. Like many other Regency buildings in Leamington, some of those on the right are Grade II listed.
