Railway Bridge, Dunchurch
This bridge carries the westbound carriageway of the A45 over the disused Rugby - Leamington railway just south of the site of Dunchurch station. The parallel eastbound bridge is the original stone arch, illustrated here: Image Passenger services were withdrawn as long ago as 1959 but the line remained open for a daily coal train serving the cement works at Long Itchington until 1985. More recently there were proposals to reopen the line to reduce lorry traffic on unsuitable rural roads, but they came to nothing.

Track to Station Farm
An impressive line of black wheely bins - some with the Rugby Borough Council logo - stands outside the gate to Station Farm. The name derives from Dunchurch Station which closed 50 years ago.

Dunchurch railway station house in the snow
Dunchurch railway station was on the line from Rugby to Leamington Spa. The station, built twenty years after the line, was opened in October 1871. Regular passenger services on the Rugby to Leamington line were withdrawn in June 1959 (although diverted passenger services occasionally used the line after this date) but Dunchurch station remained open for goods traffic until the early 1960s. The station house in the photo is now a private residence.
