Harborough Fields Farm from the east
The footpath across the field on the left of this picture didn't seem to be maintained on the ground; fortunately a small headland had been left all around the margin, so that made a good alternative way around the crop.

The Midland Counties Railway - northwards
The Midland Counties Railway Company began to form in the early 1830s, with a plan to build a railway connecting Nottingham, Leicester, Derby and Rugby, primarily to bring coal to Leicester for industrial purposes. In the latter part of that decade, once finance and Parliamentary approval for the routes was agreed, the business formed properly, and construction work began in earnest in 1839; this section between Leicester and Rugby opened in July 1840.
The Midland Counties company never really did very well as a business, but it was not alone amongst its competitors in the area. In due course, in 1844, it amalgamated with the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway, plus the North Midland Railway, to form the Midland Railway, which fared much better and duly grew into a substantial business.
This stretch of the line eventually closed in 1961.
