Alwyn Road from Juliet Drive, Bilton
These unusual houses face into Juliet Drive from Alwyn Road; Duncan Drive leads off to the right. Alwyn Road was named in 1934 after the son of a local councillor; the other roads are among several in the vicinity named after Shakesperian characters in 1964 - four centuries after William Shakespeare's birth. Alwyn Road, Bilton
Alwyn Road stretches south from Bilton village towards Dunchurch and is lined with a variety of mid-20th century house styles. According to the Rugby Local History Research Group (see http://www.rugby-local-history.org/index.php/component/content/article/86-civic/117-roads-a-i ) the road was named in 1934 after Alwyn Wootton Crowther who would have been a boy of 12 at the time. His father, however, Thomas Edward Crowther, an agent and building society branch manager, was elected to the first Rugby Borough Council in 1932 and owned part of the land on which the road was built.

Postbox on Alwyn Road, Bilton
This postbox is located at the junction of Alwyn Road and Longrood Road in a leafy part of Rugby's suburbs. It seems strange that the box should be mounted in a brick post, rather than use a standard design.
