South Africa memorial, Coton Road
This was a memorial to the men of Nuneaton who fought in South Africa during the years 1899-1902. It was erected at a cost of £160, financed by public donations, and was unveiled by General Buller in 1905. It was originally located in Bond Gate, Nuneaton, but was moved to Riversley Park in 1967. The bronze memorial was stolen, it is thought for its scrap value, in the early hours of 14th November 2006. A new statue has since been installed in a new position a few yards away in front of the town's museum. An open-air service was held in October 2008 to rededicate the replica, which can be seen in Stephen Pointer's photograph Image] Also see Image]
