Window at The Turner Contemporary, Margate
In one of the first floor gallery rooms there was a special exhibition called "We Made This", sponsored by The Koestler Trust, showcasing art works made by prisoners. I noticed this quotation on one of the large sea-facing windows, looking towards a coastal tide valve.

It's all done with mirrors
There is only one circle in this installation but mirrors on each side give the impression of them going on into infinity.

"Perpetual Canon" by Cornelia Parker is made up of 60 flattened instruments once belonging to a brass band. The work is installed in the Sunley Gallery which overlooks the North Sea. The collection of compressed trumpets, cornets, tubas and other instruments are suspended from the ceiling by fine wires. Cornelia Parker says: ‘the band may be winded, but they’re not down and out: they’re still marching.’ A canon is a piece of music where a melody is played and imitated after a short delay.

Earth-Moon-Earth by Katie Paterson. For this work, Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata was translated into Morse code and sent to the Moon. Returning to Earth fragmented by the Moon’s surface, this historical composition was then re-translated into a new score, the gaps and absences becoming intervals and rests. The “Moon-altered” piece is played on an automated Yamaha grand piano.
