The Esplanade, West Bay, Westgate-on-Sea
Somewhere beneath the crashing waves is the Blue Flag beach. This is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education and guarantees the water quality, the cleanliness of the beach and the provision of facilities including lifeguard patrols.

Planning permission has been granted by Thanet District Council under application number F/TH/13/0111 for the “change of use of care home to 8 flats, together with alterations to roof to front elevation, erection of two storey rear extension, 2nd floor extension to bay on southern elevation, 2 storey infill extension to northern elevation, insertion of doors, windows, and creation of balconies following demolition of existing rear extension, without compliance with condition 1, 2, 5 and 10 of planning permission F/TH/11/0207 to allow the provision of a garage block, the relocation of refuse and cycle storage, hard and soft landscaping, variation of 2nd floor extension, removal of windows to west, south and north elevations, insertion of windows to north, south-east and west elevations, insertion of roof lights to south and north roof slopes and formation of steps to semi-basement to south elevation”. The date of 1880 can be seen, above the balcony, on the left side of the building. This is Image after the work had been completed.

69, Sea Road, Westgate-on-Sea
Seen last December, this was Image before work had begun to convert the building into apartments. The wording on the large notice-board, in the front garden, was “A brand new development of 8 stunning seafront apartments offering a range of accommodation and boasting luxurious fittings and fixtures, off-street parking and breathtaking views” The apartments were being sold through the estate agents Miles and Barr.
