Air speed record course
On 7 November 1945 Group Captain H J Wilson set a new world air speed record of 606mph between Reculver and Herne Bay pier in a Gloster Meteor. This photograph was taken as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations and shows the record-breaking pilot's son being interviewed for television against a backdrop of the course. Unfortunately the weather was too poor to stage the planned re-enactment.

Shells on the beach near Beltinge
Walking along the promenade between Herne Bay and Beltinge Cliffs, although the beach is stony for most of the way, there is one stretch of about 100 yards where shells are piled up but in this case nothing either side. It is similar to the beach at Shell Ness on the Isle of Sheppey - see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6561203
