The Rose in Bloom, Joy Lane
Looking ENE towards Whitstable. The ground falls steeply behind the pub to the north Kent railway line, sea wall and the sea/Thames Estuary, acres of mud at low tide.

The railway towards Whitstable
The section of the East Kent Railway between Chatham and Faversham opened on 25th January 1858. The continuation between Faversham and Whitstable was opened by the Margate Railway on 1st August 1860, and was extended to Herne Bay on 13th July 1861. The London Chatham & Dover Railway reached Margate from Herne Bay in 1863. The section here opened in 1860. Seasalter Beach is just to the left. A Javelin from St Pancras International to Margate has just passed under the bridge here. Next stop is Whitstable.
