Waxwings in Tesco's car park, Whitstable
There was a flock of 27 birds when we arrived on Saturday afternoon. A very strong wind rocked the tree and the camera so it was difficult to take photographs. Shortly after this they all took off and disappeared. They normally winter in Scandinavia and Northern Siberia but are often seen along the east coast of the UK between October and March. Tesco's car park has a wealth of the red berries that they love.

Golden Hill meets the Thanet Way near Whitstable
The Thanet Way (A2990) has been superseded for through traffic by the A299. Most of the modern route was constructed in the early 1930s as an unemployment relief project. Prior to this, all traffic from the west to the Isle of Thanet had to go via Canterbury. The A299 was upgraded between 1989 and 1997 to dual carriageway for almost its entire length. Whitstable and Herne Bay were by-passed, with the old road seen here becoming the A2990.
