Seen from the public footpath/cyclepath through the university campus with Keynes College in the distance. Everywhere you go in Canterbury, you see stickers in house windows against the University of Kent’s plans to build a hotel, conference centre and student rooms on this green field site http://savechaucerfields.com/ Planning permission has been granted by Canterbury City Council under application number CA//12/01887/FUL for the “erection of ten buildings, standing two, three and four storeys in height to create student accommodation (797 bed spaces) comprising town houses and cluster blocks and associated administration/catering/welfare facilities, along with refuse and recycling facilities, car and cycle parking, drainage, landscaping and recreation space and new access road off University Road”. The site is described as land to west of Keynes College.
