For years nobody really took much notice of this feature. A local man has just painted it and it looks great.

The landscaping of Mackeson Square
The Hawkinge Gazette reported, on 6 February 2016, that overgrown Mackeson Square was to get a £65,000 makeover. This was to include the removal of overgrown vegetation and the removal of old paving slabs so that new grass could be laid. Trees, shrubs and flower beds would be planted and new footpaths would be laid. There were also plans for a cycle rack and new bins. The council had chosen a local contractor, Shephen Bailey Landscaping, to carry out the work, which had started in January and was expected to be finished in early spring
