Part of the old Buckland Hospital, Coombe Valley Road
It was reported in the Kent Messenger on the 24 May 2016 that some of the former Buckland Hospital site, which extends to just over 4 acres, was to be sold at auction on 13 June at a freehold guide price of £300-320,000 by Clive Emson, property and land auctioneers http://www.cliveemson.co.uk/ but the website shows it was withdrawn prior to the auction. The premises opened in September 1836 as a workhouse and offered, up to 500 people in poverty, accommodation and employment opportunities. New Buckland Hospital, Coombe Valley Road
It was reported in the Kent Messenger on 12 June 2015 that Dover’s new £24 million hospital was now open for business. It offers a wide range of outpatient services with improved access to diagnostics, pharmacy and other clinical services. It can care for up to 60,000 patients, based around a new one-stop clinic model, ensuring patients will have their consultation, diagnostic investigations, treatment and any pre-assessment during one visit. There is also a Minor Injury Unit and Ambulatory care facilities. They are nurse led and able to link to the main sites via video facilities for medical advice. The new building houses an x-ray department, children’s assessment centre, renal satellite unit, women’s health, and therapy services such as physiotherapy. There are improved staff training rooms, modern information technology, an additional renal station and a new pharmacy. The hospital will be the first in east Kent to have colour coordinated sections to help patients navigate their way around. Looking east-northeast along Coombe Valley Road
The building that is under construction, behind the hoarding, is being built on the site of Powell Print. Planning permission has been granted by Dover District Council under application number DOV/14/00910 for a “reserved matters application for the erection of a care home (use class C2) and creation of access (existing building to be demolished); (details pursuant to DOV/13/00952: the outline application for the erection of a care home (use class C2), creation of a vehicular access and associated landscaping (existing buildings to be demolished))”. The traffic control was causing long delays for drivers.
