Betteshanger House, Northbourne
Begun 1829 by Robert Lugar, but effectively now all the work of George Devey, c1856, for Lord Northbourne. Shaped gables, canted bays, chimneys abound, and together with the variety of materials - brown, grey and red brick, Bath stone, flint - the whole produces a picturesque, rambling effect as if the house has been built up over several centuries. Grade II* listed.
It is now home to Northbourne Park School.
The date of the photo is uncertain.

St Mary The Virgin church, Betteshanger
This charming little church is sometimes called “the Church in the Garden”. It is quite off the beaten track, in the grounds of the magnificent mansion of Betteshanger. There has been a church on this site since before the Reformation. The present building is little more than 100 years old, put up by the first Lord Northbourne in the Norman style, incorporating a Norman window and doorway from the ancient church.
