Betteshanger House, Northbourne
Begun 1829 by Robert Lugar, but effectively now all the work of George Devey, c1856, for Lord Northbourne. Shaped gables, canted bays, chimneys abound, and together with the variety of materials - brown, grey and red brick, Bath stone, flint - the whole produces a picturesque, rambling effect as if the house has been built up over several centuries. Grade II* listed.
It is now home to Northbourne Park School.
