Canterbury buildings [280]
Numbers 27 and 27A St Peter's Street occupy a 16th or 17th century building, refronted in the early 18th century. Timber framed, jettied to the street, the front of brick, all under a tile roof. The shopfronts are early 19th century. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1116659 Canterbury is a small historic city on the River Stour in Kent, some 54 miles southeast of London. Occupied since prehistoric times, it became an important Roman city. In 672, the see of Canterbury gained authority over the entire English Church. After the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket at the cathedral in 1170, pilgrims from all parts of Christendom came to visit his shrine until the Dissolution. Today, Canterbury is a popular tourist destination and one of the most-visited cities in the United Kingdom. The city has a substantial student population, with four university campuses.

Number 28 Image number 29 (seen here) and number 30 Image St Peter's Street were occupied by a motor dealer for over 100 years and the site is being redeveloped into student accommodation. The original planning permission would have retail shops and restaurants on the ground floor, but is now to be a student reception and meeting area. This has caused some division of opinion.
