This is the property that that has had scaffolding erected on its frontage and side wall. Planning permission has been granted by Thanet District Council under application number F/TH/13/0063 for the “erection of a five storey building with underground parking containing nine flats, following demolition of existing building”. The former building was a house described as having 1-2 car parking spaces and a reduced rear garden.

Planning permission was granted by Thanet District Council under application number F/TH/17/0127 for the “erection of a 3-storey building containing 3 1-bed flats to side of 1 Archway Road following demolition of existing garage”. This was the premises of Bown of London.

My last visit showed the Image Now the building, which houses apartments, has been completed and has been given a name.

Thanet District Council has granted permission under application number F/TH/13/0694 for the “change of use of building to provide eight 1-bed flats and three 2-bed flats, together with a roof extension for the second floor accommodation”. This side of the building is engraved with the words and number “established 1817 merchants”. However this was superseded by the planning permission, which was granted by Thanet District Council under application number F/TH/17/0127 for the “erection of a 3-storey building containing 3 1-bed flats to side of 1 Archway Road following demolition of existing garage”.

This was the Image in December 2017, after which the work of constructing the flats began.

The estate agents moved to this larger refurbished office from Image

The nearer building – see also https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7280451 was built around 1898 for a local wine merchant. The house on the far corner is older, mid 18th century with possibly a timber frame. Both Listed Grade II.

A distinctive building, built c.1898 by architect W J Jennings of Canterbury for Gwyn and Co, who were wine and spirit merchants. Currently occupied by a firm of estate agents. Listed Grade II.
