Italianate greenhouse, King George VI Memorial Park
The greenhouse was built in 1832 against the stable block of what was once East Cliffe Lodge, home of Jewish philanthropist Sir Moses Montefiore (1784 - 1885). The mansion was demolished in 1954. The greenhouse suffers at the hands of vandals throwing stones but it has been recently restored to its former glory, complete with fish scale panes of glass. It houses, amongst other plants, huge agaves and a grape vine.
