Dickens House, Broadstairs
This house in Broadstairs was the home of Miss Mary Peason Strong, a friend of Charles Dickens who was the inspiration for the character Betsey Trotwood in David Copperfield, Dickens' semi-autobiographical novel. Betsey was the great aunt of the title character. The house now houses a Dickens museum. Broadstairs: The Royal Albion Hotel
The hotel was originally built in 1760, and was apparently known as Ballard's Hotel in Dickensian times. Judging by the fact that the text in the dark grey panel between the second and third floors reads "The Albion Hotel", it must have subsequently been re-named, and then gained its "Royal" moniker at an even later date when it was patronized by royalty. The hotel is in Albion Street, and has recently been acquired by Shepherd Neame. Its website is here http://www.shepherd-neame.co.uk/accommodation/pubs.php/royalalbion_hotel
