Site of Halstead station
View eastward, opposite the Library. The former Colne Valley & Halstead Railway used to run in the foreground, from Chappel & Wakes Colne (to right) - (to left) Haverhill. Halstead station and the whole route was closed to passengers from 1/1/62, when all traffic ceased Haverhill - Yeldham; goods traffic continued Yeldham - Halstead until 28/12/64 and Halstead - Chappel until 19/4/65. Evidently, no trace of the railway remained 30 years later.

The corner of Halstead town park
A formal park created to mark the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria. This is the northwest corner. Virtually all the picture is in square although the photographer position may be just outside.
