The Tower at St. Andrews Church Colne Engaine
The sarsen stones in the tower are sandstone boulders brought down by ice in the glacial period, and were probably previously used as ritual marker stones in a Stone Age temple on the site. Some of the other building material came from a Roman villa nearby. The church dates back to the early twelfth century and the reign of Henry I.
