Oyster Beds
The oyster industry at West Mersea dates back to the Roman times when nearby Colchester was the most important town in Britain. Some of the beds are derelict but others are thriving and oysters from here still end up on the tables of smart London restaurants

Houseboat, with wings
This houseboat is permanently moored on the salt flats at West Mersea; extensions have been built on each side of the boat, serving to support the vessel as well as providing somewhere to hang the washing.

Victory pub, Mersea Island
Victory pub is located on Mersea Island. Directly behind the photographer is the Blackwater estuary, the black banner in the centre of the building read "A great place to sink a few" very appropriate bearing in mind its location.
