Abbey Gate
The Benedictine Abbey of St. John the Baptist was founded towards the end of the 11th C, but did not survive the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539. St. John's Abbey Gatehouse Colchester
This gatehouse is the only surviving building of the Benedictine abbey of St John. It was built in the 15th century but was later part of the mansion of the Royalist Lucas family.
