East Hill on a unique day
The commercial sponsors of the Olympic Torch event (most prominently Samsung, Lloyds Bank and a certain fizzy drink company) preceded the actual torch's slow progress up Colchester's East Hill on one rainy Friday morning in July 2012, an event unlikely to be repeated any time soon.

Olympic flame transfer
All those torches! With the flame being transferred every few hundred yards there must be many many of these mobile beacons strewn across the country. This transfer took place opposite the end of Roman Road, Colchester, below the precinct of St James the Great.

Firstsite Close Up
The average Colcestrian seems to resent the millions spent on the town's striking new Art Gallery and meeting place, especially as the bus park has been decimated to make way for it, and Image had to close because the Council had no money left.
