St Botolphs Priory Colchester
The priory of St Julian and St Botolph at Colchester was founded in 1103 and was the first Augustinian monastery in England. The surviving walls date from the middle of the 12th century. Although the priory was closed in 1536 the church remained in use until the English Civil War of the 1640s.

St Botolph's Priory
Mid C12 conventual church of the Priory of St Botolph, founded at the beginning of the century as the first house of Augustinian Canons in England. Mostly stone and brick taken from Roman buildings. The church survived the suppression of the Priory in 1536 as it was a parish church, but was ruined in the siege of Colchester in 1648. Grade I listed.
