Natural History Museum (formerly All Saints church), Colchester, Essex
Housed in a former Church, the Museum focuses on the natural heritage of north-east Essex. Did you know that there was an earthquake in Colchester in 1884? Or that mammoths and hippos used to roam there? The exhibits allow you to travel from the open, across the salt marshes and beaches, to more familiar urban environments. There are hands-on-displays, and the old churchyard is now managed as a wildlife garden, where you can see unusual flowers and perhaps squirrels, stag beetles and mining bees.
