Bell cage with bell, Wix churchyard
The cage is of 1975, replacing an earlier one enclosing the bell (cast about 1460) which was removed from the church steeple before 1633. See a detail of the explanatory plaque - Image The bell is cracked, but the crack has been cut out with a radiused end to the resulting slot. They knew about stress concentration and crack growth a long time ago! There are also a font and a couple of what seem to be stone troughs stored in the cage.
