River Stour, Sudbury
The water seen here looking downstream from Freemen's Great Common is part of the mill stream. The houses are on Garden Place.
There are several river Stours in England although the origin of the name is uncertain; one suggestion is that it derives from the Welsh 'dŵr' meaning water. This River Stour flows for 47 miles and for much of its length forms the boundary between Suffolk and Essex. The river has attracted the attention of major artists, notably John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough (a native of Sudbury).

Mill Pool, Sudbury
This wide pool is to be found immediately downstream of the Mill Hotel, the converted mill. The mill water re-joins the River Stour at Ballingdon Bridge.

Mill House, Croft Street, CO10
The building is Grade II listed: "Probably C16. 2 storey timber-framed and plastered, roofs tiled, cross wing West end with projecting upper storey. Another gable on front projecting on brackets and with carved bressummer, covered. Large original central chimney stack with 4 octagonal shafts on square base. Ground floor has small early C19 shop below street level. Timber framing exposed on part of front and painted in on North East part.
