Flitch of Bacon pub, Little Dunmow.
You've never heard of the Dunmow Flitch? Go to http://www.dunmowflitchtrials.co.uk/history.htm for full details. The legend over the door reads:
Painted in Gold ye Flitch behold
Of famed Dunmow ye Boaste
Then here should call Fond couples all
And Pledge it in a Toaste.
The pub sign on the opposite side of the road features a carved wooden flitch (side) of bacon painted gold.
