Stained glass window (South) St Helen's Church
Thomas Roussel Davids Byles (26 February 1870 – 15 April 1912) was an English Catholic priest. Father Byles, originally from Staffordshire, was ordained as a priest in 1902 and assigned to the parish in 1905. He was on his way to officiate at his brothers wedding in New York aboard RMS Titanic. He famously remained on board as she was sinking after colliding with an iceberg, hearing confessions and giving absolution. A stained glass window on the South side of the church bears an inscription on the bottom right of how he "earnestly devoted his last moments to the religious consolation of his fellow passengers". There is also a photograph of him in the church, at present on the sill.

His family installed a door (the one on the left) in his memory at St Helen's Catholic Church. In the corner of a stained-glass window, which is immediately to the right of the small door, on the south side is an inscription asking for people to pray for one of its former priests. It describes how he "earnestly devoted his last moments to the religious consolation of his fellow passengers".
