Cottages, Ferry Road
The terrace on the left is numbered 1-3, while that to the right is numbered 4-5. This terrace is a grade II listed building that dates from the 18th/early 19th centuries and is described in the http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-117407-riverside-cottage-riverside-cottages-nor as a block of 2 attached cottages. Number 4 is called Riverside Cottages and Number 5, Riverside Cottage. A bit confusing for a new postperson!

Jeff's Cottages, North Fambridge, Essex
These cottages stand almost opposite the Ferry Boat Inn, and in the best Essex tradition, are weatherboarded. The middle cottage (the one with the boat in front of it) was the actual 'Jeff's Cottage', Jeff being the man who operated the ferry across the Crouch to South Fambridge. It is thought that this ceased in 1955. It is interesting to note that everyone I spoke to in this vicinity did NOT want a ferry restored, or a bridge built: they prefer to keep their distance from Southend!

Inn sign, Ferry Boat Inn
A representation of the former ferry. On the far shore are North Fambridge church and the inn itself. Both, particularly the church, are shown much closer to the river bank than they actually are, and other buildings are omitted, even those contemporary with the costume of the passengers.

Essex: The 'Ferry Boat Inn', North Fambridge
The ferry itself ran its last in 1955, and the North Fambridge locals are in no hurry to see it return, not viewing as desirable extra traffic from the Southend area.
