In Chelmer Village
This was a green field development that boosted Chelmsford's population considerably. The architectural fad at the time, which still persists, was to pretend to be of an earlier era.

This phase of the development was called 'Bishops Mead' by the developers Bryant Homes and Taywood Homes, and won a 'Project Award' in the national Housing Design Awards 2000. It also won a mention in the 2002 Awards after it had been built. Quote from those awards: 'One of the first fruits of the new planning policies set out in Planning Policy Guidance 3, with a close-knit layout, a density of 33 dwellings per hectare, intelligent handling of car parking, and a very definite sense of place.' 'Village square' at Bryant Link, Chancellor Park, Chelmsford
These properties had only just been completed when the photo was taken, and final landscaping had still to be put in place. Comparison between this photo and 2010 Google streetview shows that the tubs of plants have since been replaced by three trees, and the painted lines delineating the parking bays have been removed to be replaced by a row of bollards.
