Line-up of vintage buses at Harlow bus station
Today an event took place to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening by London Transport of Harlow bus garage in 1963. Prior to that time the expanding New Town of Harlow had largely been served by buses based at Epping. The buses seen here all date from the late 1940s and early 1950s and are in LT's green Country Area livery. Those in the know will recognise them as RT1499, 3254, 3232, 2083 and 1700.

Harlow Bus Station
A view from the late 1970's when services were provided by the National Bus Company under its London Country brand. London Country originally was part of London Transport but was separated out from January 1970. It was absorbed into the National Bus company (NBC) in 1972. A history of London Country bus services can be viewed at http://www.ampyx.org.uk/lcountry/ . The double decker, on the 805 for Potter Street, is AN18, a Leyland Atlantean with Park Royal bodywork. It is painted in NBC Leaf Green. It was in service with London Country and their successors from 1972 until May 1988. A history of the AN's is available at http://www.countrybus.org/AFAN/AN.htm#top on the Ian's Bus Stop website.
