North Weald Hangar
This is one of the surviving hangars on North Weald Aerodrome. I strongly suspect this is a pre WW2 example. It is now used for industrial units. North Weald was one of the Battle of Britain airfields and the memorial outside the main gates is to all those who served between 1940 and 1945. North Weald Memorial
This is the memorial to all those who served on North Weald Airfield throughout its service life especially those killed either by enemy action or accident in peacetime or in war. It stands at the old main gate to the airfield. The obelisk in the centre is the Image . North Weald opened in 1916 for home defence against Zeppelin raids. It was developed in then 1920s and '30s. It became a sector station of 11 Group. A Pilot from North Weald became the first RAF casualty of WW2 when a Hurricane Squadron from here was set upon by Spitfires from Hornchurch! North Weald was attacked many times during WW2 the memorial was erected in September 2000 on the 60th anniversary of the heaviest raid. Norwegian Memorial
This is the memorial to the Norwegian airmen who served at North Weald Aerodrome during WW2. It was dedicated by Princess Astrid in 1953 it became a focus of a much larger memorial when Image was built in 2000.

Debt of Honour
This is the door in the Image behind which copies of the roll of honour are kept; visitors are invited to take a copy. I thought the fallen oak leaf captured on a cobweb was quite poignant
