New Road, Chelmsford, from the railway bridge

Chelmsford: Marconi's New Street Factory
The nearby information board explains that the factory was built in 1912 and was the first purpose-built radio factory in the world. The area behind the New Street frontage has been developed as housing in recent years.

Trains pass east of Chelmsford station, 1988
Preserved 306 017 operating special bank holiday trains passes 312 709 on a regular service. The train built in 1949 has outlived that built in 1976, which was the last class of slam door stock to be introduced.
