St Lawrence Church, Steeple, from the north-east
In the Essex volume of 'The Buildings of England', old Prof. Pevsner remarks on the eccentric mode of construction of the church walls. The Victorian architect re-cycled building materials from the medieval church that stood here, but used them in a higgledy-piggledy fashion - brick mixed in with stone, pretty much haphazardly.
