Wirral and Mersey Special at Neston North ? 1966
Making a photographic stop. The home signal (long gone) for northbound trains made a fine vantage point for photography. This picture https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3800426 shows the location looking in the opposite direction. The line had a complex early history but opened in 1896 shortly before the Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway became the Great Central Railway, offering the latter an important access to the docks in Birkenhead. In 1966 the station was still much as when it had been built, complete with timber platforms. It was fully rebuilt and modernised in 2003 to comply with Disability Act regulations. The goods yard on the left is now a Park and Ride car park.
