Bromborough railway station, Wirral, 2009
Opened in 1846 by the Chester and Birkenhead Railway, later run jointly by the London & North Western Railway and the Great Western Railway. View south towards Eastham Rake and Chester. The station was originally on the far side of the bridge. By 1897, the northbound platform to the right had migrated to this side but the southbound one remained beyond the bridge. In 1902 the railway was quadrupled with all 4 platforms being on this side of the bridge. The line reverted to double track in 1969 so the two platforms to the left became redundant and are lost in the undergrowth. In 2020 the c.1902 footbridge was refurbished with new windows and roof, but this scene is visually unchanged. See also Image for a 2024 view in the opposite direction from the footbridge.
