At Eastham Rake, 1961
Not a successful shot of the train as the poor light required a reasonably long shutter speed, but it does provide a timeline snapshot of the surroundings. Although the nearer bungalows survive, the gabled cottages beyond have been demolished, and the fields behind are now intersected by the M53 motorway. The train is a typical mixed goods train, hauled by an unidentified Stanier 8F locomotive, heading for Birkenhead. Only the two further tracks, originally the slow lines, are still in use, as the freight traffic from Birkenhead Docks has vanished.
