Cross river bus outside West Kirby station
Arriva North West 4826, a Volvo B5LH/Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini 2, loads outside West Kirby railway station before heading across the northern Wirral to Birkenhead and then under the Mersey to Liverpool. It carries a special livery for cross river services that also promotes the vehicle's hybrid propulsion system.

Shops with verandah on Acacia Grove, West Kirby
The verandah appears somewhat rickety, but still provides welcome shelter for window shoppers, and for smokers outside the cafe.

West Kirby Station
A mild February Sunday morning sees a few customers sitting outside Toast, a cafe occupying part of the station building. West Kirby is the terminus for Merseyrail trains from Liverpool.

West Kirby 1st railway station (site), Wirral
Opened in 1878 by the Hoylake and Birkenhead Rail and Tramway Company, later part of the Wirral Railway, as the terminus of its extension from Hoylake. This single platform station closed in 1896 when it was replaced by the current West Kirby station, a few metres to the west.
View north towards the site of the end of the line and platform. After many years as part of the goods yard, all trace has now gone due to site being redeveloped. The current West Kirby station is just out of shot to the left.

West Kirby station canopy (1)
Looking south under the concrete canopy at West Kirby station, whose architecture appears to indicate that it was built in the late 1930s when the railway line was electrified. The pillars appear to have been repainted recently, though it seems the painters couldn't reach the underside of the canopy itself.

West Kirby railway station, Wirral
Opened in 1866 by the Wirral Railway, on what is now the line from Liverpool to West Kirby. Previously (1886-1962) there had also been a joint station, out of view to the left where Orrysdale Road now is, where a line continued southwards towards Hooton.
