View north along West Kirby promenade and sea defence
The promenade and sea defence was officially opened in May 2023. It was built to provide protection against rising sea levels. It is 1.1km in length. On the left is Marine Lake opened in 1899. Wirral Council says the scheme ‘will protect 70 properties at risk of flooding now from extreme tidal events’ and give over 500 properties improved protection over the next century as sea levels rise.

The Sunset Lounge, West Kirby
Seen across the Marine Lake is the Sunset Lounge, it's an enjoyable place to go to, in the evenings, where you can have a drink and a quiet game of pool. During the day they also serve ice creams. Inside, it reminds me something of the ambience of Sloppy Joe's Bar in Key West, Florida. Behind that, up on Black Horse Hill is the Mariners Column.

The site of West Kirby swimming baths
West Kirby used to have a swimming baths situated within the Marine Lake. The concrete construction extending into the lake was part of the baths structure.

Ice Cream Trailer, South Parade, West Kirby
West Kirby is a town on the north-west corner of the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, England, at the mouth of the River Dee. To the north-east lies Hoylake, to the east Grange and Newton, and to the south-east Caldy.
