Georgian postbox
This enamelled Georgian postbox is located at the now closed Handbridge post office. Research on the internet suggests that this is what is known as a 'Ludlow wall box'. Although not all of this type of box was produced by James Ludlow and son they are by far the most prolific manufacturers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludlow_wall_box

EWS 300 yds == >
This wartime message, pointing to the Emergency Water Supply 300 yards away, is still just visible after over sixty years. It is painted on the wall to the rear of the post office facing onto Queen's Park Road, Handbridge. It also has the letters 'P.L' but I don't know what they signify. The houses behind the wall all face onto the main street through Handbridge.
